Til Death Do Us Part

Grief. Unexpected, devastating, uncontrollable grief. That’s what Til Death Do Us Part is about – that wish for one more moment. It’s about the prison that grief becomes, if we let it. It’s also about a talking egg.

When Judy loses her new husband Del in tragic circumstances, she’s destroyed. The support of her friends is shallow and fleeting. She returns home – to their home – after the funeral, not knowing what she might do. Then clarity returns – Del isn’t gone, he’s just taken on a different shape.

The relationship isn’t how it was – how could it be? He’s a jailor, not a husband. But will Judy find it in herself to move on?

Til Death Do Us Part is a short ten minute script for one actress and a male voice over, and can be shot in a single location. It’s surreal, gently walking the line between comedy and horror, mimicking the sense of ridiculousness and captivity that come through mourning.

It was written for a screenwriting class and has since received an honourable mention at the WideScreen Film & Music Video Festival. It was never filmed, just because at the time I didn’t have the bandwidth to do it.

The script is available to download in PDF format. If you’re interested in shooting it, email mat@randominsanity.info
